Strength

The Japanese symbol for strength

I have a plan to finish this term strong, and to do that it will require a lot of strength. Strength being just what I need to have after a long semester like this one has been. I plan to revise my entire e-portfolio- which in itself will be a challenge. I would like to edit some of my blogs and make them a touch stronger, but my main focus will be on the two projects. I believe they are the most important in this process, and will be the most useful tools in the reflection process. Speaking of that, reflection will be an enormous part of my revision. I need to create a reflection about each subject matter and all content on each of my pages in my site. This will allow my reader to truly understand the strength I have conveyed through my writing abilities. After all of my revisions are done, I will add those reflections in hopefully to ultimately produce a well-rounded project. This will be a challenge, but I know that I have the strength to do it.

Planning, Revising, Repeat

What are my revision plans? What exciting things do I have in store? Stay tuned.

Now that you have waited for such a long period of time, let’s think about these two questions. What are my revision plans, well first off, I have a lot of revisions to do. I plan to pretty much revise everything that I have created, as much as I want to burn it all, well I can’t exactly burn it because it’s electronic- well anyway.  A lot of revision is coming. The two main things I plan to revise are my second research project- that needs a lot of work, and my entire e-portfolio site in general. So what you’re reading now may not exist next week, but then again it probably will because I’m writing gold. Actually I might get rid of the gold part, but let’s move on.

I have such exciting things coming, maybe. At least I’m going to bring as much excitement to an English class blog as one can. I plan to make this site a lot more graphic, and everyone likes pictures, right? Plus I want to incorporate more research and statistics that should help prove my various points. That in addition to a lot of reflection. Reflecting on this, and reflecting on that. You shall see. Plan, revise, and repeat. Stay golden.

Don’t Read

How have you managed your time as a college student so far this term? As a writer? As a researcher?

As a disclaimer, I will just go ahead and say this will be one of those things. By that I mean you’re not going to hear anything new, and I am just like everyone else when it comes to time. That being said, don’t read this if you don’t want to be bored with reading about problems that you already have. However, on the opposite side, maybe you could relate. To answer the first question, how have I managed my time. Well first off, its 4 hours until this is due- I’m just now doing it. But you know what, this isn’t exactly my choice. From the moment I was assigned this until now, I have had no time to do it- unless I worked on it after 10pm, and I’ve never been able to think that late at night. Currently I am working two jobs, and taking 6 classes/18 credit hours. I honestly do not know what I got myself into. I should never have taken this many courses at once, I wouldn’t recommend it. Ever. All of this being said, my writing has suffered. When you have as many classes as me, and as little time, writing goes to the back of the list. It became about what I needed to finish by tomorrow, and I would worry less about the long-term stuff… Until the last minute. As I am doing now. As far as research goes, I don’t even want to talk about it.. it’s evil.

Peer Review, Learning, and Changing

After the peer review, what did you learn? What do you need to change, and how will you go about changing it? What choices as a writer did you make that your reviewers suggested perhaps you might want to change that you may still want to keep, and why will you keep them?

After doing my peer reviews, the biggest thing I noticed is that anything I said they needed to improve on, I needed to improve as well. It’s kind of funny how that goes. But I think it makes complete sense, in fact I feel like I understand it more than ever before. I think when one writes a paper, they already subconsciously know what’s wrong with it- I know I do. So when you go to peer review someone else’s work you’re kind of acting like it’s your own. Thinking about what you did wrong, and noticing that they may have done the same thing. For example, I told both of my people to improve on their thesis statements. Where is mine even at? Since I did a website, I really didn’t allot for one, and now I see it is completely necessary. I will have to make a place for it- I just have to. But that is exactly what this entire process is about, growing and becoming a better writer. I also noticed myself telling them to improve on their in-text citations, I know for a fact mine aren’t the best they could be. So that is another major thing I will need to change. This is all a learning process, but I am along for this crazy ride. I believe that the things I did wrong is this projects, I was hyper-sensitive to when reviewing the other projects.

Second Research Project

For my second research project I did my topic on Food Industrialization. I found it to be a very interesting topic with much information. I chose the non-traditional research approach by presenting my research in a website format. I have five main concerns that I would like my peer reviewer to address. What do I need to work on in general? Have I inputted too much opinion? Are my ideas balanced? Do I need more or less content? Which area of my site is least effective and why? Thank you to my peer reviewers, my website link is below.
